I do not understand the question. Are you asking when salaat was first established or you are asking about the purpose of salaat? Please elaborate.

As-Salaat means devotion and homage to the Lord.

Expression of love; showing of gratitude to the beloved; physical worship of the Lord is an act imbedded in human psychic.

Love does not exist in abstraction. Once an object of love is identified by the mind, the mind interacts with it. The interaction is called relationship.

Relationship could either be direct or indirect. When there is an intermediary between the lover and the beloved, the relationship is indirect if not it is direct.

A person’s personality, privacy, true freedom and independence are all dependent on al-Ibaadah. Our main purpose of existence is the Heart. The main goal of life is building of individual heart. Human beings are completely independent and have full privacy when it comes to heart. That is why it is haram to serve a lord other than Allah.

Human beings might be different in body but not heart. We are all equal because we are given identical hearts; it is an individual that builds or destroys his heart.

If we take (for example) the heart as a machine, there are activities that the machine performs for us and there are activities that we perform on the machine. Maintenance is an example of activities that we perform on the machine. The activities we perform on our hearts are known collectively as al-Ibaadah while the activities the machine performs for us are called al-Muammalah. So as you can see, al-Muammalah is completely dependent on al-Ibaadah.

Foremost among al-Ibaadah is as-Salaat.

Their Salaat at the house (of Allah) is nothing but whistling and clapping of hands: (its only answer can be) "taste the penalty because you blasphemed”. (Q8:35)

"To every People have we appointed rites and ceremonies which they must follow let them not then dispute with you on the matter but do invite (them) to your Lord: for you are assuredly on the Right Way. “ (Q22:67)

"They said: O Shu'aib! does your prayer enjoin you that we should forsake what our fathers worshipped or that we should not do what we please with regard to our property? Forsooth you are the forbearing, the right-directing one.” (Q11:87)

Do you not see that it is Allah whose praises all beings in the heavens and on earth do celebrate and the birds (of the air) with wings outspread? Each one knows its own (mode of) prayer (Salaat) and praise. And Allah knows well all that they do.” (Q24:41)

Peace,

the response does not tackle my question but thanks for throwing light. I hope to know what the origin of salat is and how it is to be performed.

Thanks
