GENERAL INTRODUCTION
بِسْمِ اللّهِ الرّحْمنِ الرّحيمِ

PREAMBLE
Allah created the universe as a perfect universe – a universe without any defect. He afterwards gave human beings the perfect guidebook to this universe. A human being, though part of the universe, is a replica of the universe. Human beings are created with the ability to understand the guidebook completely.

Allah is absolutely perfect in all ramifications. He is absolutely Just, Knowledgeable, Powerful and Independent. He has no any iota of defect from any angle.

Universe is the collective name for all creatures – it is perfect and conserved. The universe is composed of objects and forces – the forces act on the objects.

There are six categories of creatures and humankind is among the two at the apex. Humankind is among the most complex creatures of Allah. At the peak of human complexity is al-Aql – the inbuilt language of the universe (the universal language).

Human beings are all equal in soul though there are variations in the body and the environment.

Allah is the only Lord and the only Authority – servitude to any human being (not to talk of dead objects) is completely prohibited.

The heart is the focus of the entire universe. Al-Aql is a guide to the heart.

The mind is a servant to the heart and the self. The mind is simple and easy to program. The essence of mind is Space – that is why we can never know the boundary of space.

Objects, Forces and Meanings are the only three kinds of thing perceptible to the mind. Meanings are abstractions based on the interactions between objects and forces. Allah is perceived as a meaning. The target of life is the meaning in it.

Feelings and Impressions are the bedrock of knowledge. Whatever we see or hear can not be of any meaning until it is first converted into impressions. Knowledge is awareness (i.e., impressions)

Language is made up of symbols invented by human beings to represent the objects, forces and the meanings.

Communication is the relationship between expression and impression. There has to be match between expression and impression to create effective communication. Allah is perfect and communicates perfectly.

Al-Qur’an contains the direct words of Allah to humankind. There are no mistakes and no misplacement of words in the Qur’an – Al-Aql is as well perfect. Both al-Aql and al-Qur’an are protected from alteration.

It is unfortunate that in spite of the above, the Messenger would have to complain: “O my Lord! Surely my people have treated this Qur’an as a forsaken thing.”

Human conception goes from Generality to individuality. A person first perceives the whole then the details.

Feeling creates more impression in a person than mere sight or information. What a person experienced/felt by practical participation creates more impression in him than what he merely saw or heard of.

Al-Qur’an first gives the general overview of life then the details. Al-Qur’an is better understood by those that live a life - animals do not live a life.

The message of Allah is very clear and direct to the point. The message is ‘La ilaha illa Allah’ which has been further explained into detail throughout the Qur’an.

The Qur’an, meanwhile, is not a book that merely expresses facts – al-Qur’an preaches to the heart thus the admonitions, warnings, emphases and repetitions.

The present book is meant to introduce you to the study of al-Qur’an.

The book is divided into two sections. I tried in the first section to establish the fundamental concepts that are essential for uncovering the treasures in the Qur’an while in the second section; I explain the standards to be used for interpreting the Qur’an.

The book is no way conclusive nevertheless; it can serve as a platform for further discussions on the subject. The hope is that this is updated from time to time as more inputs are received.

THE UNIVERSE
In general term, Allah created two kinds of things and created the law by which these two things interact. The two things (though antagonist to each other) are complementary.

Whatever is in existence today is created from the two fundamental things. The Universe is the collective name for all the creatures. The universe is a system consisted of other systems.

The fundamental law of interaction is the fundamental force that governs all the activities in the Universe.

Allah, using the two bricks and based on the fundamental law, created many categories of creatures.

Basically, we can divide the creatures into five categories: Inanimate things, Plants, Animals, Angels, humankind/Jinn.

All the inanimate things obey a dimensional law. Their properties and behaviour are determined by the quantity and quality of the constituent parts.

A living thing obeys two dimensional laws. Life (as a force and law) manipulates the inanimate things. A living thing therefore, is self-initiative unlike a non-living thing.

All living things that do not have mind are herein known as PLANTS.

An animal is any living thing that has Heart but not al-Aql. Every animal has mind.

Animals obey three dimensional laws. The Mind (as a force) manipulates life which manipulates the inanimate things through the chemical and physical laws. The Heart is motivated by ash-Shahwah.

Angels are creatures that have al-Aql but do not have free-will. Angels do not have ash-Shahwah for food and sex. They use their Aql to comprehend and act according to the initiative put into them.

Human beings have al-Aql, ash-Shahwah and the power of ‘Will’.

Human beings, like animals, use their hearts to regulate life and consequently the inanimate things. The heart is itself regulated by al-Aql. Human beings therefore obey four dimensional laws.

Al-Aql, in this regard, is the ultimate nature of a human being.

NATURE AS GUIDE
At the inanimate level, nature is completely in control. An inanimate thing has no choice of life.

At plant level, nature again is completely in control though at higher level. A plant is not even conscious not to talk of will-power. Every plant is programmed to perpetuate itself. Death occurs when the conditions necessary to sustain life do no longer exist.

At the level of animal, nature is still in complete control. Animals do not learn much and therefore do not really have choices in life – animals do not have free-will.

Angels do not have free-will but have al-Aql. Angels can learn very much and can completely comprehend the communication of Allah to them.

Human beings on the other hand, have the ability to act in either of the opposite ways at a time and this is the choice. Human beings have free- will. Human beings therefore, have the ability to rebel against the natural settings.

It must be understood that even then, over 99% of human life is regulated by nature. The sphere where a human being uses his free-will is far less than 1% of his total activities.

All the involuntary activities are guided completely by nature. Apart from the initiation and control, all voluntary activities are guided by nature.

We can therefore, make the conclusion that nature is in charge of life activities and what we only need to do is to enhance the efforts and not to challenge it.

Al-Qur’an teaches us about the facts of life and how to manipulate those facts and then teaches us as to what to do. It is the work of al-Aql to attract us to the higher nature. Al-Aql is the ultimate nature. Al-Qur’an is a guide to al-Aql.

Looking onto the complex programming in the genes and the coordination taking place in the body, we can not expect that nature be sidelined.

THE REVELATION
Allah gives Aql to every individual as the ultimate nature and guide. We understand and acknowledge Allah by al-Aql.

In our acknowledgement of Allah, we understand Him to be a Merciful Lord. Mercy is to give favour and/or to forgive.

As a merciful lord, we expect favours from Allah. The sending of al-Qur’an is a mercy.

In communication, there has to be commonness of context and language.

Among several options, Allah sent an Angel to Muhammad to deliver to him His message verbatim. Muhammad was already a guided person by his own free-will – Allah chose him because he was fit. Allah is absolutely just.

Muhammad comprehended the message and acted accordingly. He was sent as a messenger to humankind. Muhammad delivered the message of Allah verbatim.

A human being was chosen to deliver the message to the generality of human beings so that there would be commonness of context. Most people do not use their Aql. The message is primarily to invite people to the use of their Aql.

Muhammad (by his just life under an unjust atmosphere) was creating events as the natural consequence of his activities among the unjust people.

The messages were sent to Muhammad according to those events; therefore, the events served as explanation for the message.

The earlier Muslims had the unfolding events as the interpretation of the Qur’an during the time the revelation was yet to be completed. The later Muslims (instead of those practical events) have the complete Qur’an of which a part of it is interpreted by the other parts.

Therefore, the method of the revelation was to send the verses as the events were unfolding so that the meanings are made explicitly clear.

If we consider the verse “Today I have perfected your religion, completed my favour on you, and satisfy with you to have al-Islam as your religion” as the last verse revealed yet it is not at the end of the Qur’an, it means that the Qur’an was not written according to the order of revelation.

Though the Qur’an was revealed according to the unfolding events at the time of the prophet, the events were only vehicle for the revelation and the events were to repeat itself throughout the course of history with some slight variation in the details.

Allah created the master Qur’an, taking into consideration the entire universe. The messages were selected from the master book and sent to the prophet according to his own specific circumstance.

The Qur’an is in its perfect form.

Several verses in the Qur’an point to the fact that at least part of the Book was sent as a written document. Allah says And certainly We have brought them a Book which We have made clear with knowledge, a guidance and a mercy for a people who believe
(Q7:52) and makes similar statement in Q29:51.

THE CONCEPTS

INSIDE-OUT APPROACH

Inside-out approach to learning is a kind of learning whereby feelings and impressions are made to precede labelling. A person, rather than struggling to understand the meaning of a word, concentrates his attention on the feelings or impressions going on inside him. It is after he has understood his internal feelings that he then struggles to find a label for it. We do the opposite in our conventional way of learning.

Commonly, our vocabularies are updated from time to time with a lot of words many of which we understand vaguely. Many people can not clearly define or explain even the commonest words that represent concepts in their vocabularies. The concepts we form as children are mostly cloudy.

As adults, we are expected to become intellectuals; that is, to get clearer concepts so that life can progress mathematically. Adults are charged with the responsibility of all children and many other creatures.

The flaw in the conventional approach to learning can be seen clearly in the case of emotions. A search through a dictionary may yield over 90 words that are meant to represent emotions. A person becomes confused as to how many emotions are there in the first place and what word represents what emotion. This is unlike the case of inside-out approach where a person first identifies the internal feelings then look for words to represent them.

Cloudy understanding renders a person vulnerable to mental exploitation.

After getting clear definition of what an emotion is and identifying three of such emotions internally, we proceed to attach the appropriate words to identify each of the emotions. This makes it very easy and clear for us to think and to explain to our listeners with precision.

The reason for ambiguity in languages is because the inventors were not necessarily intellectuals. You find in every natural language that a particular thing/concept is given various names because the inventors of the language did not realise they were still seeing the same thing though from different perspectives. In science, it was the problem of Electricity and Magnetic force – today we know better and hence the name, electromagnetic force.

The message of Allah is imbedded in us - they are feelings contained in the deepest part of us. What we are required to do is to uncover these feelings by introspection then search for the explanations - the Qur'an gives the explanation. As long as a person does not commit himself to the truth, he will not know the real challenges of life let alone the correct responses. This is what I mean as inside-out approach.

CONCEPT OF GOD
A human being is a conscious creature – a creature that relies on information to make the essential adjustments in life.

Every human being learns, the target of which is set right from the onset. There is no way a person can choose to act contrary to this. We learn so as to live in conformity with the universal design. Without the belief in a designed world, no one would learn – what would be the meaning of learning or the use of memory?

Principally, there are three things that the mind can identify: the physical objects; the interactions among them; and the meanings/benefits/purposes of the interactions.

The physical objects are the only things we perceive by the senses. We do not know and we can never know if anything exists apart from the concrete objects.

However, we do notice that there are interactions among the objects and we definitely understand that the interactions are caused. The cause might be too infinitesimal for us to see even by the most powerful aid known to us; nonetheless, we can suspect it.

The heart is the centre of our feelings. There are objective as well as subjective feelings. The objective feelings are the feelings we perceive outside the heart while subjective feelings are produced by the heart itself.

Among the subjective feelings is LOVE. Love is the focus of our conscious existence. Love is stimulated by pleasure and protected by Hatred.

There are certain sensations that are primarily attractive – they form the bases of all our learning in life. For a thing to become attractive it must be associated with one or more of those primary sensations.

To associate anything with any of the primary pleasant sensations is to apportion benefit to that thing. A person, by finding a relationship between a thing and the basic pleasure, is uncovering a meaning for that thing. Meaning therefore is the identified benefit of a thing to the heart – the value of a thing.

In our process of learning, we form concepts (some sorts of abstraction) and give them labels. These abstractions are treated as abstract objects. Whatever we know of an abstract object is derived from our interactions with the concrete objects. Humanity, Justice, Beauty are not concrete; they are few examples of abstract things.

Allah is not a concrete thing that could be picked up by the mind – Allah is an impression; a meaning; an abstract entity.

In a human system of learning, a person seeks out the whole and then the details. A human being always struggles to have a holistic concept of his world – we call it world-view. Let us label a world-view as RELIGION.

In searching for values/benefit/meaning in life, a human being begins to build his concepts into a hierarchy.

GOD, in our context here, is any object (abstract or concrete) that has the cumulative/highest value in our life. We consider such an object as the source of our pleasure. We revere/worship such god. A god is the central value of our thoughts and activities.

There is no human being (in this sense) that has no god. It may either be one god or several gods. The god may be either a physical object or an abstract entity.

Given that our internal set up is to seek for a meaning instead of meanings and the fact that the physical universe has a meaning instead of meanings, it becomes clear that there is just a God instead of gods. We all seek for a holistic meaning in life; not meanings.

Allah created the Universe as a perfect Universe and created Human beings with the ability to understand the universe. Allah then sent a guidebook of the universe to human beings. Human beings therefore are not short of anything.

IDENTITY CRISIS
A normal human adult is expected to uncover and affirm himself as an independent entity. This is the beginning of self-awareness.

There is the mind and there is the self. The mind is the platform of consciousness while the self is the conscious identity a person places on the mind – the concept of self.

Human beings, as conscious creatures, can not prevent themselves from learning. We learn whether we are attentive or not – whether the self is involved or not.

As a person is learning about the things around him, so he is forming the concept of self. Everyone has a concept of himself. Children form this concept inattentively. An adult is expected to review this concept attentively with the view of correcting it.
A person grows into adulthood as a cultural person, analysing the world by the earlier indoctrination.

Memory (as the storehouse of learning) is an essential component of consciousness – without memory there is no learning.

The brain constantly compares and contrasts among the items of life. To make sense out of things, we group them according to their similarities and dissimilarities. We form concepts and use the concepts to interpret other things. We move in a kind of pyramid towards the central concept and meaning of life.

We see the world through the lens of our religions; our real religions, not the acclaimed ones. Remember that religion is the world-view.

As we grow in the society, we are sometimes faced with conflicts – what we desire to do and what the society wants us to do. To avoid the wrath of the society, we may resolve the conflict by adopting pretence – dual personalities. We hide to do what we desire and pretend to be abiding by the societal norms.

A person’s real religion is his real world-view in contrast to his proclaimed world-view. The god of his world-view is his real god. People do have several gods. Children are indoctrinated with cultural religions. Unfortunately, many, even after becoming adults, continue to dance to the music.

Cultural people may claim to belong to this or that religion but religion to them is no more than sets of rituals done to appease a god or gods – the gods appear to benefit from such acts! What the cultural people call religion is rather a slice of thought incorporated into their total world-view. Religion, to a cultural person, is part of life; a means among several other means to an end.

Some Muslims and Christians solicit the help of the almighty God to worship their real gods! American government runs a secular system putting their trust in God!!

HOUSE AND HOME
A house is a place where we keep our bodies and belongings. A home is a place where we house our hearts.

We were all born into a home as babies – our parents were our first source of love and security. Many of us never grow out of this first home.

When we marry, we establish our independent home – we may still be attached to our parents. As we make more friends the home-hold is extended.

The essence of life is the heart. The heart loves pleasure and safeguards it by hatred. We hate anything we consider detrimental to our experience of pleasure.

Armed with the knowledge that the physical world is meant to stimulate our sense of pleasure, we set out in life to acquire houses – we are actually searching for a sustainable home.

We attach benefit, importance and value to things according to the level of pleasure we presumably can derive from them or the level of protection we believe they can offer.

The world is pre-determined therefore learning which is not to uncover the realities can never be correct. We really have no choice but to search for the truth. Deception comes along with the consequences – no one can avert the consequences.

Human beings are created with the zeal to protect their lives. It is in the cause of protecting the dear life that we realise the importance of money (wealth) and power. By money we provide for our needs and by power we protect ourselves.

We live on earth along with animals and plants. We eat and manipulate them for our own purposes. We hardly believe animals have their lives to live; it is as if they are created for us.

Human beings, on the other hand, are equal partners in the affairs of life. Every human being is created independently – no one is a slave to another. No human being has the right to enslave or manipulate another human being. Every human being lives for his heart and not the heart of anyone else.

For the importance of money and power, new gods and religions emerged. Whoever controls money and power becomes a god to whom others direct their worship.

Muslims understand that actual power belongs to Allah and also believe that He alone controls the heavens and the earth. Muslims worship Allah understanding that He is the true source of pleasure and protection.

Most people (including the so-called Muslims) believe in several gods instead of just a GOD. They believe in multiple sources for pleasure and protection; they believe and worship more than a god. Many of these worshippers are rather politicians playing in and over the hands of gods.

A person who believes that the universe is one and also acknowledges that there is just a designer and controller is already a monotheist- there is no need to identify the god by name because there is nothing like Him. That is to say names like “Allah” or “God” do not really matter – it is the meaning that matters.

As a child, a person neither had the mental capability nor the attention to learn correctly. Every child is misguided. Becoming an adult, a person is expected to learn attentively and thereby correct his wrong conceptions and ideas about life. Many people (unfortunately) are lazy and therefore remain misguided even as adults.

Meanwhile, after years spent in wrong conceptions, knowing the truth alone is not going to suffice – a person must take practical steps to internalise the truth; to change the heart. Theoretical conviction would have to be transformed into Practical conviction if the new realisation is to be more than mere ideal.

It is a theoretical conviction for a person (who has been bombarded throughout his childhood about ghost) to later learn that a dead person can not harm anyone. No matter how convincing the arguments, he may still find it difficult to sleep alone with a dead person during the night – the heart may still resist. It is only after taking the practical step to confront the falsehood that the heart settles down – this is what I call practical conviction.

While every step towards practical conviction aught to be preceded by theoretical conviction, one really has no option but to adjust to the truth if he is to prosper.

We find among the so called Muslims many who do not understand Islam as a way of life in the first place. Majority of them take Islam as a set of rituals to appease or appeal to God for assistance in their chosen way of life. They do not understand that al-Islam is the life (world-view) itself.

For many others who do understand al-Islam as a way of life, they consider it to be set of ideals because they have refused to put into practical life what they understand – they are mostly hypocrites who (though identify themselves as Muslims) live the life of nominal people.

Whoever is looking for the True Benefactor, there is no doubt that in al-Islam he finds a home. It is only in Allah that the heart finds a permanent home.

Many people acquired houses hoping they would find home but later committed suicide out of frustration – another blunder. Many others continue the endless journey of pursuing a mirage.

According to Ben Zion:
Sensitive people need to believe in the existence of God, in order to understand the world. The purpose and order and beauty of creation leave them with the over-powering conviction that some guiding intelligence, of infinite power, wisdom and goodness, is behind it all. The void that will be created by the surrender of this conviction would make our world totally irrational.

But the belief in the existence of God fills another need for sensitive people. It helps them find meaning in their own existence. No one can meet the challenging demands of living without the sustaining faith that one's work serves some abiding purpose. But what purpose of mine can have abiding significance unless there is significance in the entire drama of life in which it plays a part? Unless this be so, every individual episode within it is doomed to frustration, regardless of outcome.

The individual passengers aboard a ship cannot be sailing towards a destination unless the ship itself is being steered by some captain's hand. Otherwise, the ship will only drift. It will battle against the waves, but it will find no haven. The gifts of life and love.

ABSOLUTE PERFECTION
Perfection is a complete state of a being or a situation that no further improvement can be made – a state of flawlessness.

As human beings, we go through the cycle of desire and satisfaction throughout life. We do not act until there is an urge and we do not stop acting until there is satisfaction.

Satisfaction is a state of achievement – a state a person can relax and feel happy to have completely fulfilled a desire. In this sense, a person is either satisfied or he is not satisfied. Partial satisfaction is still not satisfaction.

There are situations where mere hope of gratifying a desire creates a feeling of satisfaction in a person. This is because the person imagines it.

The universe is pre-determined and finite. Actual satisfaction can only be realised when there is the ultimate urge and the satisfaction. There is nothing above ultimate satisfaction.

A person (due to ignorance) may desire less than the best and therefore experience satisfaction short of the ultimate. This is not perfection.

A person sometimes compares his present situation with how it was originally and feels a sense of satisfaction – this is a relative satisfaction.

Absolute satisfaction (which is also absolute perfection) is a situation where a person is devoid of worries – a state where a person fits completely into the nature.

We talk of human qualities and separate them into physical power, intelligence, acquisition, opportunities, etc. These are some of the things that we are given in nature. By nature, we mean all the qualities.

Our proposition is that nature is complete. Allah could not have chosen to act otherwise. Allah is absolutely perfect.

Most people (theoretically) claim that Allah is absolutely perfect while in their practical activities the story is different.

It is not possible for anyone to believe that Allah is absolutely perfect and yet give regard to any other authority. What will be the basis of the other authority?

If Allah is completely aware, able and merciful, what else does a person want than to seek and cling to Allah?

PERFECT UNIVERSE
The Universe is the name for all objects and forces – all the creatures.

The creatures do not just exist; they are always interacting in pre-determined manners. It is from the interactions that we acquire meanings and do our manipulations. The meanings are not concrete objects but abstractions. Therefore, the universe is composed of the concrete objects and the meanings we derive from the interactions.

In interaction, perfection can only be evaluated on the account of the goal – it is the goal that determines the level of achievement.

In the question of universe, we can not do but to use our mind as the yardstick. Do we really find a flaw in the universe? Allah challenges human beings to look and look again. How better could we have expected the universe to be? Meanwhile the universe must be perceived as a whole and not just a segment in isolation.

Allah created the Universe perfectly and gave Human beings the ability to comprehend it completely and then communicated the guide to him. Here I am specifically talking about the universe as the collective meanings.

Albert Einstein observes:
"The most incomprehensible thing about the universe is that it is comprehensible. A human being is part of a whole, called by us the Universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest--a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us.

“Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

“The human mind is not capable of grasping the Universe. We are like a little child entering a huge library. The walls are covered to the ceilings with books in many different tongues. The child knows that someone must have written these books. It does not know who or how. It does not understand the languages in which they are written. But the child notes a definite plan in the arrangement of the books---a mysterious order which it does not comprehend, but only dimly suspects.

“The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvellous structure of reality.

“It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity. What I see in Nature is a magnificent structure that we can comprehend only very imperfectly, and that must fill a thinking person with a feeling of humility.

“This is a genuinely religious feeling that has nothing to do with mysticism. The finest (most insignificant) emotion of which we are capable is the mystic emotion. Herein lies the germ of all art and all true science. Anyone to whom this feeling (this religious feeling) is alien, who is no longer capable of wonderment and lives in a state of fear is a dead man.

To know that what is impenetrable for us really exists and manifests itself as the highest wisdom and the most radiant beauty, whose gross forms alone are intelligible to our poor faculties - this knowledge, this feeling ... that is the core of the true religious sentiment. In this sense, and in this sense alone, I rank myself among profoundly religious men."

Even though our mind might not comprehend everything as at present, the fact remains that we can comprehend. Allah says that what we know presently is a drop from an ocean compared to what we can know.

THE COMPOSITION
Look around you and stir into the sky or look onto the ground; look with a microscope or with a telescope; whatever you can see is the universe. Universe is the name given to all concrete things and the interactions between them.

The observable universe (in contrast to the actual universe) has no shape and looks almost the same from anywhere that it is observed.

In the farthest distant universe, we see bright objects that we cannot identify properly.
In the known universe, we have about 125 thousand, million galaxies, which exist as groups.

One of the nearest galaxies to us (Andromeda) is about 2 million light years away.

Our local group consists of 20 galaxies and there are groups that contain over 1000 galaxies.

Our galaxy, the Milky Way, has about 100, thousand, million stars in it. It takes our star (the sun) about 220 million years to orbit the centre of the Milky Way.

One of the nearest stars to us (Sirius) is about 9 light years away.

A light year is the distance light covers in a year – it is approximately 9.46 million, million kilometres.

The sun is our star and we have many other planets that orbit the sun.

Our earth is about 150 million kilometres from the sun and it takes it 365 and a quarter days to orbit the sun. The earth orbits at 25,000 miles in an hour.

Allah talks about seven (7) heavens and all the above mentioned objects might just be in the first heaven.

We have day and night because the earth spins on its axis.

There is variation in seasons because the earth is tilted against its axis of orbit.

The earth is spherical and we live at the surface. About 70 percent of earth surface is covered by water.

The core of the earth is as hot as the surface of the sun.

When we look around us, we see people and see animals - we see plants, buildings and the machines that we have invented to assist us in life.

We can vividly differentiate between one object to the other as we can as well clearly see the similarities that exist between them.

The mind learns (whether we are attentive or not). The mind continuously makes deduction concerning the similarities and dissimilarities among these various objects.

We now have a group of objects we refer to as human beings.

These human beings are similar to other animals except that they have superior brain and speech and therefore have higher form of social interactions.

We have also differentiated between an animal and a plant. While we acknowledge that they are both living, we understand that animals have something extra which is consciousness.

When it comes to non-living matter, we can differentiate between gas, liquid and solid matter. We now understand that they are the states of matter - water can exist as gas, liquid and as a solid matter though we commonly observe water in the liquid form.

Base on our experiences and studies of life, we now understand that there is more truth to life than we commonly observe by our sensory organs.

By probing into life, it has become clear to us that there are illusions and delusions. An illusion is a universal mistake (made by the brain) in the basic analysis of sensations while delusion is a mistake made by a person as a result of wrong belief.

By interacting with the visible objects and knowing that they are composed of some other simpler objects, we are modifying and manipulating them to our taste.

By studying our bodies and knowing the objects and forces that are at work, we are now contributing to the repair of our bodies and modifying them to taste.

By understanding and using the process of thought, we are now mastering the world and putting the universe under our feet. Which among the favours of our Lord are we going to deny?

THE DESIGN
A design is a plan created by the mind to meet a particular target.

Human life is composed of two creations: the mind creation which is known as design and the physical creation which is the transformation of that design into physical activities.

A person learns from the past to make his present better and to prepare against the future. No body has access to his present because every present is pre-determined. A person therefore can only control his present from the past. The past is the design and the present, the action.

Every intended activity is preceded by the mental creation or motivation. The Will-Power can only be used to control the mental creation. Designing/Planning or Mental control takes place in the present but the execution is in the future. By the time of the execution, the planning is already in the past.

Some people think before they talk and you can see a kind of organisation and sense of direction in what they say. Some people think before they act and you can see that they are better adjusted. Most people are at the mercy of their minds – they say anything that comes to their mouth (with or without regulation) and do anything that is possible.

As always, we expect the absolute best from Allah and here, in the design of the universe.

We go to school to engage in lengthy study of architectural designs so that we can understand the best ways to meet our needs in construction. The results are all evident around us and we marvel at structures put in place by human minds.

The structures do not only meet our targeted uses, they are strong and durable and in addition, beautiful.

In putting up a structure, we put everything into consideration (as far as we know) and start with the mental creation. We learn from the past and make modifications. We anticipate future and prepare against it. The result is the marvellous structure that a person can look at and finds little to criticise. We do acknowledge our limit in knowledge and opportunities – Allah is not limited in knowledge and not in opportunities.

In designing a house, we put into consideration, the electrical wiring, the temperature regulatory system, the orientation, the sewage system etc.

“The technical demands on building remain the elemental ones—to exclude enemies, to circumvent gravity, and to avoid discomforts caused by an excess of heat or cold or by the intrusion of rain, wind, or vermin. This is no trivial assignment even with the best modern technology.”

Planning a room and designing a house is a small thing when compared to designing a city. A house designer must look into the City Plan to harmonise.

“In its modern form, city planning is an ongoing process that concerns not only physical design but also social, economic, and political policy issues. As a fabric of human organization, a city is a complex weave. On one level it consists of the arrangement of neighborhoods, industry, and commerce according to aesthetic and functional standards and the provision of public services for them. On another, perhaps more important level, it also comprises (1) the background, education, work, and aspirations of its residents; (2) the general functioning of the economic system to which they belong, as well as their positions in and rewards from that system; and (3) their ability to make or influence the policy decisions that affect their daily lives.

Viewed from this perspective, city planning requires more than a narrow specialist who can develop and implement a physical plan. More general skills and activities are also needed. They include (1) the collection and analysis of data about the city and its population; (2) research into the need for and availability of social services; (3) the development, evaluation, coordination, and administration of programs and timetables to supply these services; (4) programs for economic and housing development and redevelopment—not only planning, but also packaging, financing, and carrying out the development, establishing public and private partnerships, and so forth; and (5) effective use of political activity and citizen participation to influence the character of and give support to development programs.”

It is not all houses that have elaborate plan and it is not all cities that are planned.

I have not heard of a planned nation but let us assume that there is one.

Like city, planning a nation will need a broader mind that can put the interests of the nation as a whole into consideration.

Such a nation plan, in addition to the requirements of a city plan, will have to take defence and pollution into consideration. Transportation and marketing will have to be tailored to the need of the nation while at the same time providing rooms for adjustment.

Every city planner must take nation plan into consideration.

As we move up the ladder, we talk of continent plan, planet plan, galaxy plan and finally universe design.

We must also not forget that as we are going up the ladder, so we have to descend down into the world of the microbes.

Allah created the Universe perfectly and gave Human beings the inbuilt ability to comprehend it completely and then perfectly communicated the guidebook to him. Here I am specifically talking about the universe as the collective meanings.

The design is so complete that there is nothing a human being will ever need which has not been provided.

Allah, putting all our needs into consideration and creating enough rooms for adjustment, has designed the universe perfectly to our taste.

THE CONSERVATION
Conservation is to prevent a change to an entity – a thing that exists on its own.

A thing is either composed of smaller parts or it is without parts – the universe is composed of all things.

A thing that is composed of other things can undergo changes either in quality or quantity. The changes can either turn a thing into another thing or merely modifies it. A growing person is still regarded as the same person. The universe can not be changed into another thing.

A thing that is merely modified is either modified by addition or reduction of the composing constituents (in which case the modification is quantitative) or the constituents are merely replaced or restructured or exchanged (in which case it is qualitative change). Quantitative change may sometimes be perceived by human sense as qualitative change like in the case of colours.

Allah first created two fundamental things from which all other things are created. Those two fundamental things are conserved in the sense that they will forever remain as they were created originally.

Allah, having an encompassing knowledge, has created all the fundamental things that will ever be needed. There will never be need for any addition nor reduction. The concrete things are conserved.

Interactions, on the other hand, can not be conserved because there has to be room for modification and manipulation of things.

It will interest us to note here that the principle of conservation of energy will only be correct if we understand that energy is the fundamental component of all concrete things.

THE MATHEMATICS
Human brain can only identify objects then compare, contrast and compute among them. The identification is the LANGUAGE while the comparison or computing is MATHEMATICS.

Principally there are these two subjects (Language and Mathematics) which are conventionally sub-divided into several other subjects.

The universe is composed of distinct things that have specified sizes and are therefore countable. The system of interaction is also pre-defined.

Human beings study the system and use it to manipulate the objects in a very complex way that seems to have no end.

While language helps us to hold the items of thought as distinct things, mathematics helps us with the mental manipulation.

The universe in its composition is vast – the structure and designs are even vaster. To get an idea, one can compare the brain cells to the vastness in the inter-connections that springs up among the cells. It is the design/pattern/interaction that yields meaning valuable to human mind.

The universe is one hundred per cent mathematical. What we need is to get the formulas of life and use them to make all other calculations. Al-Qur’an is about the formulas in life. The formulas constitute the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth.

Einstein got it all when he said “God does not play dice with the universe”

HUMAN BEINGS
Human journey into life started as collections of physical particles taken by the parents as food. The sexual organs were developed in the process and the hormones were enhanced. Both sperm and egg that would later take the most active part in the making of a new human body were nothing but earth that has been activated by life. It is He (Allah) who created you from dust then from a sperm-drop.

A fertilised egg (by predetermined design) begins to grow using the same earth but through the mother. The mother only takes the material food while nature accomplishes the other processes. By nature here, we are referring to the laws of Allah.

After 12 weeks of pregnancy, all the foetus's organs, including its brain, are beginning to function, yet it is still only 6 cm long.

In the subsequent weeks, the baby will grow (as part of the preparation) to become a separate entity.

When a baby is born and the umbilical cord is cut, the first out of the three ropes of dependence has indeed been cut. The baby henceforth is no more part of the mother’s body but a separate entity. The baby now gets its food through the mouth and takes in air from the raw earth. The baby has just gotten out of al-Jannah of the mother’s womb. There are still two more ropes to be cut later in life.

The baby would now have to grow to become physically and mentally fit to face the challenges of life by itself. An adult is mentally independent.

When a person becomes fit (mentally) to face life by himself, Allah cuts the second umbilical cord - the new adult is henceforth responsible for procurement of his needs and security. If his life would be sweet or bitter, it would now depend on how he utilises his Allah-given brain and mind. A person up till this point has become an adult but not all adults are human beings – some adults are worse than beasts.

Galileo Galilee is reported to have said: “I do not believe that the same God who has endowed us with a sense, reason and intellect has intended us to forgo their use.”

BECOMING A HUMAN BEING
The first umbilical cord was cut by human beings while the second one was by Allah. The third and the determining rope in life can only be cut by an individual himself. It is for every individual to decide to become or not to become a human being. We all have identical opportunities with respect to this choice. The goal of life is to become a human being.

What distinguishes an adult from all other creatures of Allah is nothing but the brain. It is by brain that we are in charge and manipulating all other creatures. After all, there are many other creatures there that are better equipped bodily and environmentally except in brain. You think you are small and inside you is the universe.

And (Allah) lets you reach a Term appointed: in order that you may learn wisdom.

At adulthood, an adult is confronted with two options in life; to declare his independence from all human lords and live a just and rational life or to remain a slave and be condemned in life.

And a soul and Him who perfected it - And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it - Truly he succeeds that purifies it - And he fails that corrupts it! (Q91:7-10)

A human being is a King or Queen. We might have individual differences in body but in heart we are all equal. It is left for every individual to train his or her heart.

Allah sends us to earth as individuals and He will raise us up (on the Day of Judgment) to face our individual accounts – no soul bears the load of another.

Allah has no relative and therefore no one is nearer to Allah by virtue of creation. Nearness to Allah is only by at-Taqwa. Allah does not look at our bodies and material possessions but our hearts.

When the Qur’an was revealed to Muhammad, he was instructed to leave the words of Allah exactly the way it was communicated to him so that anyone reading the Qur’an today will be like he was Muhammad receiving the message directly from Allah. There is no intermediary between anyone and Allah in al-Ibaadah.

The Qur’an is the only authentic book of facts that anyone can rely on 100% without any fear of error. It is from Allah and Allah has encompassing knowledge. Science may be updated but Qur’an is all truth. Al-Qur’an is in total conformity with the reality of life and it is addressed to human brain.

Therefore, anybody that refuses to use his brain is nothing but a fool; anyone that allows himself to be manipulated is nothing but a slave. A human being is a king that relates with other kings and queens on equal terms. The clear instruction from Allah is – DO NOT OPPRESS AND DO NOT ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE OPPRESSED.

The declaration that there is no lord but Allah is what makes a person a human being.

The motivating factor in life is no doubt survival and happiness. Every human being struggles to become happy. For an adult, life is to acquire practical and permanent happiness – a home.

It is in the search for security and happiness that an adult identifies with one religion or the other and joins organisations.

The problem of an adult is therefore a practical problem and the solution he wants is no doubt a practical one. A religion or organisation must be seen to provide practical solutions if not it is irrelevant.

Al-Islam which claims to be a solution must be seen practically to be so. Al-Islam comes to awaken an adult to the use of his brain and provides guidelines that are in total conformity with that brain.

How then are we made to abandon the use of our brain that we become backward in life?

Say: "O people of the book! Come to a common term between us and you: that we worship none but Allah; that we associate no partners with him; that we erect not from among ourselves lords and patrons other than Allah." If then they turn back say: "bear witness that we are Muslims." (Q3:64)

So if they dispute with you say: "I have submitted my whole self to Allah and so have those who follow me." And say to the people of the book and to those who are unlearned: "do you (also) submit yourselves?" if they do they are in right guidance but if they turn back your duty is to convey the message; and Allah’s sees (all) his servants. (Q3:20)

Generally, a human being is made up of a physical body and some forces acting on the body (whether directly or indirectly).

The body, as we have observed, is made up of the common elements found in the universe.

The body is organised into cells (each of which has life) and is therefore living.

The living cells are further organised into tissues, organs and systems of which the central nervous system is the coordinating system of all the activities.

The brain is the coordinating organ of the central nervous system. The brain coordinates both the conscious and the unconscious activities. The unconscious activities are the activities that are below the mind. The coordination of unconscious activities is pre-determined – the mind can only manipulate it.

All conscious activities are preceded by urges. The heart (based on ash-Shahwah) stimulates the mind.

The mind, as the centre of all conscious activities, is associated with the memory to store and retrieve information as needed. The mind deals with information – it extracts information from the world via the brain and initiates activities in the world via the brain.

The mind registers data, retrieves them for analysis and rebuilds them into meanings based on the existing beliefs. The mind has a pre-determined nature to search for a whole meaning in life.

The meanings extracted from the world are built into a hierarchy of beliefs – the central belief is known as IDEOLOGY. Every human being has a world-view (no matter how cloudy) at any particular moment of life – the world-view is updated from time to time.

The heart (as the focus of the mind and the centre of feelings) responds to impressions by either inclination or aversion depending on whether the impression carries pleasure or pain.

Any perception that is not tagged with ash-Shahwah is considered meaningless and is therefore easily lost.

Tagging of information with ash-Shahwah is done by thought (which is interpretation of the present data by the earlier beliefs). The whole process is termed as learning.

As children, learning was done solely by the mind. We now understand that they were not error-free. Every child is naturally misguided in the sense that no child has and can have correct world-view. A child is any human being that has not attained mental maturity.

Beliefs, as we can see, play the major role in thought – all conscious activities are regulated by thought.

Our limbs are controlled by our feelings while our feelings are controlled by our thoughts.

Guidance, which is to guide to the truth, is to guide the mind to correct assessment of the world.

AUTHORITY AND OBEDIENCE
O you who believe! obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority from among you; then if you quarrel about anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger, if you believe in Allah and the last day; this is better and very good in the end. (Q4:59)

Authority belongs only to Allah and Him alone – Allah has no partner and has no relative – nearness to Allah is only by at-Taqwa.

At-Taqwa is by choice and self-struggle – at-Taqwa is not by privilege – All human beings have identical chances with regards to acquisition of at-Taqwa. Allah is absolutely just.

Human beings have vertical as well as horizontal aspects of life – while human beings are interdependent with regards to their horizontal aspect of life, they are completely independent when it comes to the vertical aspect. No soul bears the load of another.

Vertical life is the making of our desires while horizontal life is the way we have chosen to fulfil those desires. In a clearer form, vertical life deals with beliefs and intentions (Character) while horizontal life deals with our practical activities (Behaviour).

Human beings are made up of soul and body – all human differences are only in the body – in soul, we all have identical opportunities. There is no feminine or masculine in soul and no poor or rich. Allah says:

And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, - Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it; - He will indeed be successful who purifies it, And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. (Q9:7-10)

Al-Islam addresses individuals as independent souls and addresses human beings as interdependent bodies.

There is no fellowship in beliefs and intentions - every soul would have to account for his/her deeds – the holy prophet could not guide the person he loved when it came to soul just like prophet Nuh could not guide his son – It is only by individual choice that a person becomes guided. This is the meaning of the verse that that there is no compulsion in faith.

Authority of the prophet is a delegated authority likewise ‘those charge in authority’. Allah has no partner in His affairs and His religion is so complete that it can not accept any addition or subtraction.

If there is no fellowship in matter of belief how can there be leadership?

Authority of the prophet is only with regards to our practical activities. No one can enforce belief or intention because it is completely a private affair.

If the prophet is alone, he can not be the leader of anyone and Allah can not tell anyone to obey the prophet. So, of necessity, there has to be a community before prophet can exercise an authority. There has to be those who believe before Allah says “O you who believe! Obey Allah, the messenger and those put in authority among you”

In a nutshell, obedience here is with regards to coordination and regulation of affairs – without a community, there is no leadership. There is nothing called spiritual leadership.

When two or more people have to do anything together, they may need coordination, regulation and settlement of dispute when it arises; this is the meaning of leadership.

Allah delegated authority to the messenger (as the leader of the then community). The holy prophet could not be everywhere so he delegated authority to some people – these are the people that are charged with authority. A leader has to be alive to coordinate activities.

A member of a community must (compulsorily) obey the leader or there will be anarchy. Meanwhile a person is free at anytime to withdraw his allegiance by walking out of the community.

As long as a person considers himself a member of a Muslim community, obedience to the leadership of that community in communal affairs is compulsory. There is no difference between a prophet and any other just leader.

It is the leader that has the final say when it comes to determining what is communal, family or individual affairs.

The Community leader in turn, appoints his representatives.

The representatives (as local leaders) are meant to coordinate activities and settle dispute at local level. So, if there is dispute among the local people, it is natural that they return to their local leaders.

Family leaders are also representatives of the community leader and every representative has his jurisdiction (area and level of authority).

If however, there is dispute among the local people and their local leader, they return to the central authority which is Allah and the prophet or whoever is in place of the prophet. This is the quarrel that is referred to in the above verse.

A person always has the option to leave al-Islam because there is no compulsion in the religion.

Apart from the general rule that there is no obedience to disobedience of Allah, obedience to leadership of a Muslim community is unconditional.

Every adult is an independent human being that accepts authority over himself by his or her choice. An adult joins an Islamic community by choice and therefore accepts the leadership. He is free at any time to change his mind.

When Allah accused the Jews and Christians of taking their rabbis and priests as lords beside Allah, He simply meant that the rabbis and priests command them as against the order of Allah and they obey.

LAW AND RULING
Law does not rule rather it is a person that rules by law.

No matter how perfect a system is, if there is no Just leader, the community is a misguided community.

There has been a great deception that LAW can rule. Nay! It is man that rule by law.

Law is dead that it can neither enforce nor defend itself.

Allah says: "Whoever does not judge by the Book of Allah" and did not say "Whoever does not allow the book of Allah to judge him"

Allah did not talk about establishing perfect laws on earth but talked about establishing righteous servants that will rule by His laws.

Where is it in history that law ruled? Is it not Might that has ruled most part of the time?

Therefore, a Muslim must not accept anyone as his/her ultimate leader until he/she is convinced that such a leader is immune from sin – that he has absolute control over himself and he is sincere.

A Muslim must be vigilant to ascertain that his leader remains just. He/she has to be on the watch to ensure that he/she is obeying Allah and not the wishes of anyone.

The promise of Allah is to establish His righteous servant on earth – those people that are very careful and considerate of others.

Indeed such are the best community raised up for mankind. They enjoin right conduct and forbid indecency; and they believe in Allah.

A just leader rules by standard principles and procedure that are apparent to the members of his community. The leader has to be seen to be just.

A Muslim community is highly dynamic and unstable. There is no any assurance that a member will continue to be a member – it depends on how much such member maintains his or her personal Taqwa.

Ignorance, negligence and following the crowd are not qualities and as such a person does not need any effort to acquire them unlike wisdom, vigilance and sense of direction. To remain a Muslim, a person must remain vigilant and struggle against his carnal and irrational desires – this is difficult for many.

It is not where a person starts his journey that matters but the direction he is going.

If there has to be orderliness, learning and progress, there must be standard laws. Along the standard laws, the Just leader customises and makes necessary adjustments to handle exceptions.

The size of the 'body of law' of a community is inversely proportional to the level of trust in that community. Where the level of trust is higher the size of law is lower because the convention (which is the context) would have taken care of many things.

Any Muslim leader who is prevented (by the enemies) from ruling his community must fight to remove the persecution if he is able if not he is considered weak.

A Muslim does not need to go to any Jurist to give him verdict.

There are the guidelines outlining the wisdom of affairs from which every individual can draw and interpret according to his/her specific situation. Public laws must always be made known to the public.

A human being has only his life to live – his life can never be enhanced once he is dead.

Knowledge is the target of life here on earth. If we spend the duration of our life and that of the generations to come, we may still not be able to encompass the universe.

We therefore have no option but to seek out the guidebook of the world from the Creator and to comply.

PERFECT TRIANGLE
From the design of the universe, the environmental bricks to human being, we have a perfect triangle

The design is actualised by the creation of human being as a guide for the universe.

Allah does not play dice with the universe.

ما أَصابَكُمْ مِنْ مُصيبَةٍ فَبِما كَسَبَتْ أَيْديكُمْ وَ يَعْفُوا عَنْ كَثيرٍ

This is to tell us that the universe is perfect and devoid of evil. It also tells us that Adam and Hawa were complete human beings without a flaw. It implies that mutation could never have resulted in any positive consequence except error is not meant. Human beings are responsible for all the calamities.

Cells are created with the ability to correct errors (mutation) during DNA copy and replication. Errors that are not corrected at this stage may be eliminated by the affected cell through suicide.

Error that escapes correction at physiological level may finally be laid to rest by the environment.

Alteration is not a synonym of mutation. Alteration could be by design or by error. Mutation is alteration by error.

COMMUNICATION
Communication is the relationship between Expression and Impression.

Wherever Expression matches Impression, there is Understanding and where they mismatch, there is Misunderstanding.

In communication, the familiar is assumed and it is the one that forms the context of the message.

For communication to be positive there has to be commonness of both language and context.

Allah (in this our particular case) is the one making the Expressions while we (humankind) form the Impressions.

To achieve commonness of both language and context, Muhammad (a human being) was chosen to serve as the medium of expression.

Prophet Muhammad first understood and assimilated the message then expressed it. Muhammad delivered the message VERBATIM. The message (which was revealed in the commonest language known to the people at the time) is self explanatory. Muhammad however interpreted the message in his practical life. He did explain the message for those that needed more explanation.

To explain the message is to express it at various levels (i.e., under various context) so that there is precise understanding of it. Human beings have different levels of awareness.

Language is the fundamental means of communication. By language, we use words and gestures to express our feelings and to identify objects.

Commonly people have overlooked the fact that communication with oneself is more important than communication with the outside world. There is a great problem in this particular area. Many people fail to discover themselves in the first place not to talk of being in charge of themselves.

LANGUAGE
A human being senses, perceives and retains his experiences.
For the fact that perceptions are so enormous that the retention and remembrance cannot be handled easily, it was designed that human beings develop the ability to represent those perceptions with compact symbols that are easier to manipulate.
It is the collection of these symbols that is known as language.
By language, we manipulate our perceptions, communicate with ourselves (by thinking), communicate with others (by expressing ourselves) and thereby understand ourselves and the world around us.
The effectiveness of this communication is determined by the clarity and the richness of the language.
A language is composed of nouns (which represent both concrete and abstract things) and verbs that represent actions.
Human major problem in communication (whether in thought or expression) is related to ambiguity found sometimes in abstract representations. Most times, the ideas are vague.
For communication (thought and expression) to be very effective, there has to be distinct facts (information); an order in retention and recall; then a proper coordination or manipulation of the facts.

HEART
Love is the essence of our life. It is the building block of the Heart. Hatred is only a protection for love.

Though the Heart is the overall master of a person, it is nonetheless dependent. The Heart is motivated by Ash-Shahwah under the guide of our Thoughts.

Love (as a feeling) must enter into our consciousness to become meaningful. It is interpreted in the Mind as desire.

The Mind is almost completely subservient to the Heart but Decision (which is from the SELF) is ruling at all time.

Human beings are created (by instinct) to learn and form Beliefs (i.e., concepts). The beliefs are further grouped into higher concepts and so on. The overall Belief in this hierarchy of belief is known as Ideology.

A person’s thoughts are based on these beliefs; therefore, a person’s awareness and consequent perception of the world is based on his Ideology.

The ultimate, central or the dominating value(s) of a person is known as God otherwise gods.

The force of attraction (love) that exists between the Heart and the Beloved God or gods is referred to as Worship.

Therefore, every human being compulsorily worships at least a GOD.

PLEASURE AND PAIN
If there is any word much talked about but less understood, it is Pleasure. How much we talk about it?

When you talk of enchantment, express joy or you feel high, you are indeed experiencing pleasure.

When we want people to sympathise with us or to share in our sorrow and joy, it is because we want to have taste of pleasure and want to swim in an ocean of happiness. In a nutshell, we want to feel the presence of love at all time or simply said, we want to be pleased.

Our life is a life of Relief and Entertainment. All our activities in life, ranging from our quest for material things up to mental wealth, are motivated by the urge to be relieved of discomfort (whether physical or mental) and/or to be entertained - relieve from lack of love and rejoice over presence of love.

No human being can survive without love. No conscious creature can survive loneliness; it might be by this that all conscious creatures are said to live as communities.

Pleasure can best be described as the Beloved which the Heart craves for. When it comes to the conscious level, it is experienced in conjunction with the resultant love. Therefore, the various facets of pleasure we experience in our life is made possible by the kind of stimulus that is involved,

Pleasure meanwhile, is either physical or mental or combination of the two. Physical pleasure is that kind of pleasure that appears to come from outside our mind while mental pleasure is within our mind (i.e., subjective)

Pain, like Hatred, is designed to protect Pleasure. While our life here is made up of Relieve and Entertainment, our life in al-Jannah may be wholly of entertainment.

BRAIN
The brain is the prototype of the universe – it is the reflection of the universe.

The brain is predetermined and whatever we later understand as the components of the universe are already imprinted in the brain architecture.

As far as the brain is concerned, the universe is designed, conserved and highly mathematical.

We have three senses one of which is sub-divided into other senses. The sense of touch (contact sense) is sub-divided into the senses of taste, smell, temperature, pain and pressure – each of these senses has special receptors all over the body.

In exception of the senses of touch which are interpreted directly, the senses of sight and sound are rather dependent on other medium known as light and air. Without light, we can not see and without air, we can not hear.

The messages transmitted by all the senses are virtually the same, it is the region in the brain where they are directed that makes the difference.

The sense of sound is perceived in an area inside the brain that it is itself devoid of air. The sense of sight is perceived in an area in the brain that it is itself devoid of light.

If the nerves emanating from the receptors to the brain were to be interchanged, in the place of light we may hear sound or feel temperature and so on.

Contrary to the popular belief, there are just two things in existence: the concrete objects and the forces acting on them. The forces (collectively) are known as the Soul just like the objects (collectively) are known as the Body.

The only force that acts directly on the concrete objects is known as LIFE.

Mind, as a force, acts on a living brain. The mind is only aware of what goes on in the brain.

It is the brain that is in direct touch with the concrete objects via the senses.

There are three senses in every human being: the sense of feeling (which includes the sense of taste and smell), the sense of hearing and the sense of sight.

Apart from the sense of feeling that has direct contact with the concrete objects, the senses of sight as well as hearing only scan the objects. As we shall see later, the Heart is only aware of the sense of feeling.

The brain, as the centre of the central nervous system, coordinates all the bodily activities and at the same time responds to the mind.

While we may never understand how the mind interacts with the brain, we do understand something about the interaction.

Allah, in the holy Qur’an, talks about the existence of Angels and Jinns and He made it very clear that they are material objects like us. It is not all concrete objects that are visible to us. We scan by light and sound waves which are themselves among the concrete objects (no matter how infinitesimal).

THE PERFECT QUR’AN
Allah is perfect and communicated perfectly. Al-Aql is reinforced by al-Qur’an. There are no mistakes and no misplacement of words in the Qur’an – it could never be better.

Allah is able and the communication of Allah is delivered and preserved perfectly as the guidebook of the entire universe.

Allah never jokes and the universe is not created for joke. Allah put human beings on earth as the temporary abode and the coming is not for any joke.

It is true that human beings are given al-aql as the internal guide; nonetheless, Allah still sent messages to them. The universe itself is a guide.

The message of Allah to humankind is complete likewise the preservation of it – we could not have expected otherwise. Allah has power to protect His message.

The Qur’an (as the final message of Allah) can not be expected but to be perfect. Adulteration is a joke which must never be tolerated in this situation.

The Qur’an is the summary of the universe. The message of Allah is very clear and direct to the point. The main message is لا اله الا الله which has been further explained into detail throughout the Qur’an.

وَ لَقَدْ جِئْناهُمْ بِكِتابٍ فَصّلْناهُ عَلى عِلْمٍ هُدًى وَ رَحْمَةً لِقَوْمٍ يُؤْمِنُونَ
And certainly We have brought them a Book which We have made clear with knowledge, a guidance and a mercy for a people who believe
